Reflecting on Sampha’s “Inclination Compass (Tenderness)” off of his 2023 album Lahai, I wanted to create a motion piece formed around the track’s emotional texture. Using clay, I sculpted a scene consisting of text, a record and record player arm, and backdrop to develop a soft and “tender” environment. With a collage of these elements photographed, I stop-motion-animated the clay elements to move to the instrumental of the song.
